Elite Student-athlete and Sport Scholarship Support

The University of Melbourne has a long and proud tradition of supporting student-athletes in their sporting and academic pursuits. For more than a century, students have combined study and sport as part of the Melbourne Experience. The University has been represented at the Olympic Games by its students and alumni on some 150 occasions, and provides Australian representatives to a variety of sporting teams on an annual basis.

The University also recognizes that its elite student-athletes will be required to balance their studies with the challenges of their sporting pursuits. The University’s Elite Student-athlete Program provides a framework for flexible study and assessment options for eligible elite student-athletes.

In addition, the University of Melbourne recognizes that training and/or competition for its prospective student-athletes may be affected their academic performance during Year 12. Elite student-athletes intending to apply for study at the University of Melbourne are encouraged to submit an application via the Elite Athletes and Artistic Performers Entry Scheme in addition to their VTAC application. Please note relevant deadlines for submission.

The University of Melbourne is also a member of the Australian Sports Commission’s Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) network.

Melbourne University Sport also provides elite student-athletes with a range of scholarships each year. Sport Scholarship Support offers financial and/or in-kind support to both new and continuing elite student-athletes with the aim of assisting these students to reach their sporting potential whilst studying at the University of Melbourne.
