University Football Teams Final Campaigns

5 September; Peter Walker

The University Blacks and Blues football teams were setback in their finals campaigns in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) William Buck Premier Division over the weekend. The Blacks season has ended and the Blues must now play an elimination final.

The Blues met minor premiers Old Trinity Grammarians in their qualifying semi-final at Sportscover arena on Saturday 3 September. The Blues were overpowered by Old Trinity 18.9.117 – 8.8.56 and will now face Old Xaverians next week for a chance to face Old Trinity in the Grand Final.

The Blacks faced the Old Xaverians in their elimination final on Sunday 4 September. Despite going in the final quarter with a nine point lead, Old Xaverians stormed home to win 14.9.93 – 11.12.78.

2016 is first year that both the Blacks and Blues have played finals football in the William Buck Premier division since the Blues returned to VAFA’s highest division at the end of 2014.
