Ormond College dominated the 2016 College Rowing Regatta, winning both the Men’s and Women’s first VIII and the Men’s second VIII.
The banks of the Yarra were filled with the colours of the Colleges for the annual College Rowing Regatta on Saturday 30 April.
The weather was ideal, with sun and good on water conditions greeting rowers and supporters for the 7.15am start. Hundreds of spirited college residents and alumni were on hand to cheer on their respective crews.
Ormond dominated Men’s rowing all day. The college won the Men’s Second VIII - a tightly fought race with Ormond persevering over a challenging Trinity crew. This was the fifth consecutive year the Ormond crew has won the Men’s second VIII competition. In the Men’s First VIII Ormond surprised reigning champion Trinity in a resounding 6 length victory.
The Women’s Second VIII final saw St. Mary’s challenge St Hilda’s College. The St. Mary’s crew proved too strong, winning over a gallant Hildas crew. In the Women’s First VIII final, reigning champions Ormond defended their 2015 title against Trinity.
Melbourne University Boat Club volunteers assistanced with the coordination and running of the program on the day.
