MU Sport is looking forward to a huge 2016.
2015 has been a huge year for Group Fitness and 2016 is lining up to be even bigger.
Throughout the year, 50 instructors delivered 3,500 sessions across 17 types of classes, providing 60,000 participation experiences. Group Fitness classes are currently still running, on a reduced summer timetable.
Group Fitness Coordinator Ange La Scala says free weekly Group Fitness classes were one of the year’s great successes.
“Free Friday classes were a way to remove the barrier of price to engage students, staff and community members who might not normally attend,” she said.
“A total of 271 non-members attended Free Friday classes during 2015, demonstrating the popularity of the program. It’s a fantastic way to get a taste of Group Fitness or a new class you haven’t tried yet.”
In 2015, MU Sport focused on bridging the gap between Group Fitness and the gym and addressing time-poor participation needs by offering 30-minute X-train classes.
“The X-train classes offered to members as part of our Group Fitness timetable were run across both sites with our experienced Fitness Instructors. A more varied approach to fitness is important because it leads to better results,” Ange said.
While 2015 was a big year, there is even more to look forward to for 2016 Group Fitness, with MU Sport determined to find innovative ways to increase participation and engage students across the program.
“Our motivated instructors will be delivering a wide variety of classes in 2016. We’ll also see the return of more early morning classes and a strong wellness program,” Ange said.
