With another year of study commencing, the new intake of residents into the University’s 12 Residential Colleges have been keen to investigate the Sporting options offered by MU Sport. The new semester presents a great opportunity to get involved with sporting life at the University and to find a balance between studies, social activities and fitness.
The close proximity of the colleges and MU Sport’s fitness facilities are an ideal opportunity for residents to incorporate fitness and recreation into their schedules, as many of the colleges border the Sports Precinct. During O-week, MU Sport conducted tours of our facilities for college groups and distributed over 900 free workout passes to new residents, giving them a free opportunity to experience MU Sport’s programs.
“We are always enthusiastic to have good relationships with Colleges and to capitalise on shared locations, further strengthening the bonds between the University and the Colleges by contributing to the overall student experience for residents”, said Alex Affleck, Operations Manager.
MU Sport currently has college fitness partnerships with three Colleges (Janet Clarke Hall, Medley Hall and St. Mary’s College) that provide their residents unlimited access to all of the fitness facilities and programs offered by MU Sport, including the gym, pool and group fitness classes. Over 90% of the residents at the three colleges take advantage of this partnership, with 70% of those members using our facilities regularly.
In addition, MU Sport’s inter-collegiate sport program offers a chance for college students to get involved in sport and fitness at the University. With 16 sports included in the 2014 College Sport calendar, there is sure to be a sport that suits all residents’ interests. College Sport is also an opportunity to foster the famous college rivalries, some dating back to 1921.
Any college resident is welcome to get involved with fitness and recreation opportunities at MU Sport. Find out more about membership and college sport via our website.
