First Year Student Eyes Off World Cup

02 March; Carl Junot

The University of Melbourne Elite Athlete Program (EAP) welcomes first year Bachelor of Commerce student-athlete Monique Iannella to campus. Monique comes to us from South Australia's Woodville High School.

Ianella is currently a part of Football Federation Australia's (FFA) young Matilda soccer team that will represent Australia at the Asian Football Confederation U19 Women's Championship (FIFA World Cup Qualifiers) to be held in China, 19-30 August 2015. She has previously played her club football in the FFA's W-League with Adelaide United FC.

When asked about her choice to attend the University of Melbourne and the support provided by the EAP Ianella responded, "I chose to study at Melbourne University as it is regarded as the best university in Australia and I believe will open many doors for my career. As I will be studying full time in conjunction with high-level sports (full time training schedule) I will have major time restraints." The EAP aims to support the academic and sporting needs of Elite student-athletes through entry schemes, flexible study assistance, and sport scholarships.
